There was an older guy doing the milk deliveries and he really classied up the situation by shouting at the (african) taxi driver “at least we pay tax and insuranccccccccccccce” he even threw his body into it and jumped towards the door as he said it. I doubt he even pays his tax and insurance but it sure was nice of him to project his hatred of 1000 black men onto the one he was having an argument. Daft racist.

One of the guys in the taxi with us asked them for a pint of milk. They wanted a euro. It was a rip off so he declined. Seems everyone has a price.

THE TAXI industry in Ireland has changed dramatically over the past 10 years. According to figures from the Commission for Taxi Regulation, there were 4,218 taxis in 2000, before deregulation, and on January 1st this year there were 21,139. The face of the industry has also changed, becoming multi-ethnic in the intervening years, writes FIONA GARTLAND

During the boom years, although there were tensions as numbers grew and as more nationalities entered the industry, there was enough work to provide a living for most. However, the recession has seen a sharp drop in business for taxi drivers, competition for work has intensified and racial tensions are on the rise.

Anecdotes about African drivers are widespread within the industry (I know – my husband drives a taxi): the driver who was seen abandoning the taxi at a Garda checkpoint; the driver who needed directions from his passenger to get from Abbey Street to St Stephen’s Green; the driver who took the long way from Dublin airport to Drumcondra; the driver who did not have any identification displayed on his dashboard.

Some Irish-born drivers also complain that newcomers break long-established unwritten protocols, which include not overtaking another taxi to pick up a fare or to try to get ahead on a rank, and leaving a fare to the taxi behind you if it has just let you out of a side road.

As I got to St. Stephens Green the queue for the taxi rank was only a few people. One guy said he had not seen any taxis on the rank since 2 am and that there was someone waiting just a bit longer than he was. I asked the other guy how long he had been waiting as I didnt trust the first person’s answer. He said “longer than you”. I said “I just want to know how long it takes to get a taxi. He was rather agitated and said “you just got here, who do you think you are”. I said “I am not being aggressive to you”. He answered “I am being aggressive to you”. I said “oooooook bye bye” and mimicked him as I walked away. I got a taxi around the corner.

Under the taxi regulation advertising code you are aloud put a representative body sticker on your roof sign. We The People Of Eire is recognised as a registered body.

They seem to represent the taxi drivers and gardai. One blogger said Dublin has more taxis than new york, passengers heaven and drivers hell. I refuse to let any taxi driver take me anywhere near the George’s St. sea of yellow lights and in actual fact I would put up with the yaw yaw’s on the luas instead of hearing one more taxi driver butting into conversations. They are paid to drive people home and not to sing, whistle or dispense worldly wisdom. What about ‘we the people who have to put up with this SHIT’ ?

Speaking of that street: someone I know went speed dating in a bar in Dublin. He called his sister to try to find somewhere else to go in a hurry. He felt he was going to be raped if he stayed where he was. His sister was in the George, a gay bar, with 2 of her male friends. The speed dater took refuge in a gay bar to get away from the mob of horny women. How strange is that?

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary says protesting taxi drivers should work harder or get out of the business if they have a problem making a living.

Mr O’Leary, who holds a taxi-licence plate but uses it purely for personal journeys, said he doesn’t support today’s protest by taxi drivers and would be actively using his taxi on Dublin’s roads today.

He said he had “no time” for the drivers’ action and called on the Government to have the guts to issue taxi plates for as many people as might want them.

Mr O’Leary, a trenchant critic of aviation regulation, said he strongly supported the existing system of taxi regulation. “If people can’t make a living from taxis, they should work longer hours or go somewhere else. There are plenty of others who will take their place.”

Speaking at the launch of a Ryanair “rescue plan” for Irish tourism, he also called for a further expansion of bus-lanes. “Speaking as one of the many contented and very happy taxi licence-holders in the country, I think the present system is working fine.”

We had moved around 10 feet in total and we were back on the pavement. Someone else was going to get in. I then shouted at them “dont get in, that guy is a FUCKING ASSHOLE” and tried to take a photo of his taxi plate as he sped off. I then started laughing.

These taxi drivers force their shite complains and conversation on you all night. They are always banging on about how there are so many taxis now. When a guy is asked to bring people home at 3am on a Saturday he decides he is only interested in doing a half a job.
I suppose it’s better than the guy who was programming one of the main streets in the city center into his sat the other week. He had his hand going through the steeringwheel as he drove.

The taxi drivers in london study the knowledge, the ones here are schooled in pure ignorance.

I was driving home from work, doing the speed limit going through some green lights. Some guy got upset with me, he seemed to forgot that traffic going straight has the right of way at a juction. He wanted to turn right across me and started beeping at me. I pointed at the light and gave him the finger. If he does’nt know even the basics of driving lets hope he has his shit jeep reposessed soon.

It seems the idiots in the cheaper suvs are the ones who are the most angry this week. Maybe its because they knew they were crap and couldnt really afford them in the first place but they wanted to fit in. I dont know with whom they want to fit in but it is not working. Some retard from Wicklow was also tailgating me to work this morning.

I have moving house hell to look forward to this week. One of my boxes flew away in the wind as I carried it out of the office. I wonder why I am moving my stuff but staying in this country. I actually asked someone for the box and it cost me a lunch ticket. I have a feeling I will have a Larry David moment tomorrow when I find out the box hit the guys car as he left work. I am dreading hearing “isnt that the box that Kevin wanted, wonder why he threw it away”. Hmmmm.
