Hipsters

People in Ireland seem to be confused don’t know anything about hipsters (much like bitcoins).

I was walking down the street with some friends. One has a beard but is not a hipster in any way, he just a student who has a beard. Some guys started to call him a hipster and my friend didn’t even notice, because he has no interest in their game. Ironically the guys themselves looked like hipster wannabe dickheads. There were others I came across that night in a bar. I tried to get past one and I said “excuse me hipster”. I got a half-glance, not enough that the guy would admit he was one but also enough derision that I could tell he was slightly unhappy with what I said. He still moved aside which felt like a minor victory. It struck me as the irony of ironies is that if you call an actual (ironic) hipster what they are (a hipster) they don’t like it. What is the deal with these people. They get their necks tattoed and crave attention and when you notice they pretend they didn’t hear you.

hipster

NYTimes Blog:

The hipster haunts every city street and university town. Manifesting a nostalgia for times he never lived himself, this contemporary urban harlequin appropriates outmoded fashions (the mustache, the tiny shorts), mechanisms (fixed-gear bicycles, portable record players) and hobbies (home brewing, playing trombone). He harvests awkwardness and self-consciousness. Before he makes any choice, he has proceeded through several stages of self-scrutiny. The hipster is a scholar of social forms, a student of cool. He studies relentlessly, foraging for what has yet to be found by the mainstream. He is a walking citation; his clothes refer to much more than themselves. He tries to negotiate the age-old problem of individuality, not with concepts, but with material things.

Not that I was worried but I did a test on areyouahipster.com and I am glad to report I am the furthest thing there is from a hipster thank god. It is probably because I think moustaches, skinny jeans, tattos, earrings, fixie bikes, trucker hats, pointy shoes and vinyl all pretty useless.

Christmas Jumper party

Oh the excitement of insurance nerds at christmas.

Click on photo for a view of the Shop selling these monstrosities which seem to have overtaken halloween as dress up season. People are wearing flashing lights getting locked doing the 12 pubs of christmas.

disturbing advertising

“Eurocycles Eurobaby Jingle – The Movie” – I hear this a lot on the radio. I actually liked the song until I saw the video.

I didn’t expect to see such perversion. There is a guy with binoculars starting at some bullocks ballbag (I could be very wrong on the cow part but who cares). There is a guy running around with nathin on except for a flatcap and another fella playing a bodhran with a shillelagh. What the hell.

“No Nonsense Insurance TV ad 2013 – SmartDriver”

This was funny for a while. It appears to be back now. It probably has something to do with chav culture being on TV on Monday nights (hash tag damoandivor, bleedin wopper).

Micheal, do you think the guy sounds like Callow? – ya big ham (hang).

“Meteor – 4G Danger Zone”

A cross between into the West and Top Gun while drinking cans of Energee / Horse Piss.

“Three Telecom – Three Little Words”

Here are some three word combinations that come to mind how about “creepy stalker guy”, “leave me alone”, “this seats taken”, “pretentious fucking crap”, “terrible phone company” or just or “go fuck yourself”

The Muslim brotherhood:

The Brotherhood’s credo was and is, “Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.

Following the 2011 Egyptian revolution and fall of Hosni Mubarak, the group was legalized.

Its founder, Hassan Al-Banna, was influenced by Islamic reformers Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Rida, with the group itself being influenced by both Sufism and Salafism. In the group’s belief, the Quran and Sunnah constitute a perfect way of life and social and political organization that God has set out for man.

horse fashion

I don’t get why horse racing is such a glamorous event here, I prefer Hot Rod Rally or Road Boulin any day of the week. The people talking in this clip are a lawyer to the celebrities and his gold digging wife.
