bad company 2 is 1943

Battlefield bad company was launched on PC and console last week.

It looks like DICE who have made the entire battlefield series so far were also working on making battlefield 1943 for the PC but were sidelined. Electronic Arts are their owners and they need the billion dollars in sales that Activision take in with call of duty games. This is a screenshot from the single player and there is a WW2 part that makes little sense in the context of Bad Company. It looks to me like a sneak preview for 1943.

EA games have been making major losses:

Electronic Arts, the maker of video game titles such as the “Madden” series, reported a third-quarter loss of $82 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $641 million, or $2 a share. On an adjusted basis, the company earned 33 cents a share in the quarter, lower than a year earlier but above analysts’ estimates.

I have no idea why it has has not gotten past pre-release for the PC. It has been out for months on the xbox. It has been pushed further and further on the PC. Still, it is due out Q1 2010, that is the latest.

They probably realised it was a better bet to go with the game that they can charge 45 euros for rather than 12 in the case of 1943 (and free in the case of BF Heroes). I am hoping they are taking their time on the PC version to make it bigger and better.

Here is a video which was ‘leaked’ – it has actors in polish voices so expect a lot of “kurwa”:

There are 3 noticable versions of the engine, Frostbite 1.0, used in Battlefield: Bad Company, 1.5 used in Battlefield 1943 and Frostbite 1.5 with Destruction 2.0 which has Bullet Drop and ability to destroy whole buildings instead of walls only, can be seen in Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

They simply had to make a rival to the Call of Duty. They can use Activisions constant rush to market and can capitalise on its success. You can see that DICE/EA borrowed from COD. Some of the objective modes remind me of Counterstrike.

You could see COD had its problems and a lot of the ones I had were with the measures it took to combat piracy (I had a lot of problems connecting to demonware). They screwed the enthusastic but whiny PC community with Modern Warfare 2 which did not allow you to choose or administer servers where you play. It was a two fingers and to me confirmed that they were going to concentrate on the whole console market. PC gamers whined that the gaming companies had forgotten the people who had supported them through the years. Whining is one thing gamers do better than playing.

There are also issues with a few things on bc2. The servers are constantly being updated and maintained. People are being kicked and cannot connect. It seems the master server cannot cope with the number of players logging in during the European night and American afternoon/evening:

As you probably noticed, we have experienced an outage across EA servers today, this was caused by a routing issue outside of EA’s control but it has been solved and things are back up and running again.

Tomorrow at 8:00 GMT/9:00 CET and 12:00 (midnight) PST the EA servers will be brought down for maintenance. There is no current time for when the servers will return so keep an eye on our Twitter for more up to date information as we get it: http://twitter.com/OfficialBFBC2

On a more positive note, we have released the R6 server to server providers today which should stop the PB INIT FAILURE messages that have been causing problems recently, as well as releasing new server versions, we are still investigating and fixing connectivity and stability problems that are being reported in the forums http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/.

There are also problems with the cd keys on veteran.battlefield.com but its not a big deal, you get access to a garand M1. I did find one lying around but I prefer the prototype XM8 for its fire rate for those times you come across a nest of campers. I would really love sticky nades somtimes.

This is NOT a sneak preview for BF1943, the WWII piece in the beginning of bad company 2 is for the singleplayer storyline, in wich ” operation aurora”, as it is called plays a big part in the ending of the storyline, it is just one mission in world war 2 yes, but it is definitly not a sneak preview for 1943.
BF1943 is Multiplayer ONLY, and will not be released until 2011, i pre-ordered it and it says that the release date for PC gamers is 31 dec 2010, so i think i am going to get a refund

what I am saying is that the people who were making the game were working on bc2 instead of on 43 which they were going to give away for free – this no revenue model didnt make any sense to them after a while, especially when call of duty started to rake in megabucks

43 for the pc was due in the spring of this year – it is a shame they didnt bring it out but they must have had some work done and i think this is what is used in the game and video passage above – the plot in bc2 is flimsy and doesnt need this ww2 bit to make any sense. My refund is long overdue – that they are still taking money for this is a bit of a piss take but its not that much so hopefully eventually we may see it – they are probably working on bc3 and medal of honour so dont hold your breath.
