I met some interesting young girls in town last night during and after a private party. One did’nt want to tell me her occupation. She said it was very embarassing. I said “are you a prostitute?” and she said “its worse”. I told her that what I do for a living is something that I should be ashamed (but I am not). She said “I am a banker”. I produced a fake sort of laugh but did actually find it funny. I asked her some more about it and she said “at least prostitutes have some sort of social standing”. I asked her if it was a sperm bank but she didnt hear me or just ignored it.
On the way home a girl was embarassed to stop us to ask for some money to get home. She was not poor and appeared to be unused to asking strangers for money. I asked her where she lived and she told me “Rathgar”. I gave her two fivers which should have covered the fare. She said “that is too much”. I said “are you going to ask the next person for more money?”. I was walking away and she said “can I at least give you a hug”. I wish I had’nt turned her down.
I started thinking that this was a red letter day. It seems selling yourself on the street is more socially acceptable than banking or even working.
It was also a night where I came across a few people that I know and did not want to see. One was my old pal, the chav with the goatee from the gym – he was driving past and it sounds like the engine in his BMW 650 is dying, which took the sting out of having to see or hear him.
At 3am we saw biggest asshole in Ireland – he should be called the highlander as “there can be only one”. He is so important that he pushes people out of his way and his “sorry” is like an accusation of sorts. I saw him try to get into a silver bmw which was already full of people. I dont even know if he knew the people. He had just left a club of sorts. I wondered if he heard me shouting his surname followed by “you fucking asshole”. If he did he look he would have seen two people he knows well creased up laughing.
