70% of people saw something. One lady got her hearing back after 30 years and another got a shock and didnt need her walkign stick after. It cured someone else who was paralysed. The bishop says “direct supernatural intervention in the affairs of men is a very rare occurance and because of that ordinary common sense would advise caution in regard to the alleged happenings at ballinspittle”.
Cathy O’Mahony one of the caretakers of the shrine was taking a walk past the statue. They were going to say a decade of the rosary but saw it come alive. She said that it was breathing or sighing and the others saw her hands move. 13 people saw it. She had a sense of peace and protection.
In the video they say tourism has been better than in years and people are eating “grotto burgers”. The shops and the hotels are gaining from it. It has brought prosperity that has’nt been exploited “as yet”. They did get new toilets and new telephones in record time. Sure God is good and works in mysterious ways.
A close friend dislcosed to me over a few pints the other night, his experience in ballinspittle 20 odd years ago.
He was a teenager amongst the reverential mass and some one shouted
“it moved!” There was a collective sigh, replied to almost immediately by a dissenting voice saying “nah, it was just a shadow”.
Somebody from the back of the flock, whos vision of the statue was impaired because of the collection of heads, said in a testy voice…
“Which one is it lads? Did it move or didn’t it?”
Hilarious. Back to the third world in quick time!
