Not the national rifle association, the national roads authority. They are still demanding 95 euros for going across their crappy bridge even though I paid them (albeit a bit late but I was out of the country and they had some joke address for me). Where else would what should be maybe 20 euros within a month escalate to “pay 95 after 2 weeks or 500 in a month or 5000 and jail after that”. I was astounded that Google result number 1 for “m50 bye law” would produce a link to a SCAN of the bill. I can almost imagine the guy from NRA saying “ah fuck it, that will do them”. The page is not searchable and the table of charges is displayed at a 90 degree angle so you have to crane your neck to read it causing whiplash.
I am going to keep a close eye on the consumer price index come August – they wont like having to reduce their fee. Lucky for them they are allowed to multiply the figure by the CPI and then round it up or down to the nearest 10 cents and then up or down to the nearest 50 thereby rendering the whole thing a fucking scam.
15.
ADJUSTMENT TO TOLLS
15.1
For each Toll Year and for each class of User/Vehicles:
(a)
the Maximum Tolls shall be the Base Tolls for such class of User/Vehicles;
(b)
the Initial Default Toll shall be the Base Initial Default Toll specified in the First Schedule for such class of User/Vehicles;
(c)
the Additional Default Toll shall be the Base Additional Default Toll specified in the First Schedule for such class of User/Vehicles; and
(d)
the Final Default Toll shall be the Base Final Default Toll specified in the First Schedule for such class of User/Vehicles,
in each case, multiplied by the Consumer Price Index for August in the previous year (using a December 2006 base year of one hundred (100)), divided by the Opening Index, and the resulting amount (together with any applicable value added tax, if any) shall be rounded upwards or downwards, as the case may be, to the nearest ten cent (10c) or such other amount (equal to or less than fifty cent (€0.50)), in each case, as may be determined by the Authority.
